Classification
Antihyperlipidaemic Agents
Indications
Primary hyperlipidemia of Type IIa,IIb,III, IV & V (Fredrickson classification), if dietary treatment alone proves inadequate. Secondary hyperlipidemia, which persists in spite of treatment of underlying disorder.
Dosage
Bezalip 1 tab tid. In case of good therapeutic respones: 1 tab bid. For patients w/ sensitive stomach, use gradually increasing dosage scheme. Bezalip Retard 1 tab daily.
Contraindications
Liver diseases (except fatty liver), gallbladder diseases w/ or w/o cholelithiasis. Severe disorders of renal functin (serum creatinine>6 mg/100 mL or 530 micromole/L for Bezalip or>1.5 mg/100 mL or 135 micromole/L for Bezalip Retard). Pregnancy, lactation. Nephrotic syndrome.
Precuations
Childn; patients w/ hypoalbuminemia, total renal failure.
Adverse Reactions
GI symptoms (transient). Allergic skin reactions. Potency disorders. Rarely hair loss, rhabdomyolysis. Pain & muscle cramps.
Interactions
Decrased absorptoin by cholestyramine. Potentiates action of coumarin, sulfonylureas & insulin. Avoid concomitant administration of MAOIs. |
